Maintain Certification

How do I maintain my certification, and how long is my certification good for?
GCITP Validity Period

The GCITP certification is valid for a period of four (4) years from the date of conferral. At the end of the 4-year validity period, certificants must renew their GCITP credential.

GCITP Maintenance Requirements

To renew the GCITP credential at the end of the 4-year maintenance window, Certificants must complete 100 Professional Development Units (PDUs) and pay a recertification fee. If a certificant does not meet the GCITP maintenance requirements at the end of the 4-year maintenance window, the certificant can opt to re-take the GCITP exam in lieu of recertification. The details of what constitutes a PDU and how PDUs are tracked is outlined below:

Purpose of the GCITP Maintenance Requirements

The purpose of the GCITP maintenance requirements is to ensure that certificants maintain and/or improve the level of knowledge and skill in the countering-insider threat (C-InT) mission which they initially demonstrated by passing the GCITP exam. The requirements listed below support this purpose by ensuring that certificants continue to participate in activities that are designed to keep them up to date on changes within the profession (specifically those changes related to policy, technology, techniques, and procedures). Each of the GCITP maintenance requirements were developed and recommended by a group of senior C-InT subject matter experts from across the enterprise who believed that these requirements were appropriate and sufficient to allow certificants the flexibility to choose the maintenance activities that they felt best suited their individual and professional development needs while also ensuring that certificants participated in a variety of maintenance activities to stay sufficiently current in all of the areas of the profession where changes may have occurred. These requirements were then reviewed and approved by the GCITP Governance Council prior to the launch of the program.
